GCSE Media Assessment: Learner Response

GCSE Media Assessment: Learner Response

1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).

WWW - This is a strong first assessment in Media - the final two questions are particularly strong. Well done!

EBI - The challenge now is hitting that level throughout.

- Revise terminology and read the question carefully.

- Develop your unseen text analysis (Q3)

2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Write down the mark you achieved for each question:

Grade 5

Q1 - 0/1 | Q2 - 1/1 | Q3 - 4/12 | Q4 - 1/2 | Q5 - 5/6 | Q6 - 5/8

 3) Identify one of your stronger questions. Why did you do better on this question? Use the mark scheme to help you with this.

Two of the questions are tied in marks (Q5 & Q6) so I'll pick Question 6 since it was intended to have a lot more writing. I spent a lot of my time on that question.

4) Identify one of your weaker questions. Why did you score lower on this particular question? Use the mark scheme to help you with this.

Q1 - Didn't think it through and rushed.
Q3 - Could've spent more time on it and I could've wrote down the stuff that I was thinking which would've given me extra marks but I don't remember why I didn't.

5) Finally, write a new, detailed paragraph for Question 3 - the unseen text 12 mark question. Use the mark scheme to identify anticipated content you can add to your response and make sure you refer to the text and write in detail.

Analyse the Heat advert featuring Beyonce (Figure 1) to show how connotations are
created to communicate meaning.
Her red dress, the red text and the red background shows us that red is the theme. The colour red can indicate power, fearlessness, passion, intensity, sensuality and can be associated with strong emotions and also aligns with the text "HEAT"
Beyonce wearing a revealing red dress can suggest that the product itself is captivating and seductive.
By placing Beyonce in the centre, the ad shows us her as the main attraction, her posture and her facial expression reinforces the idea that using the product will make you the centre of attention and resembles confidence
