Media: Minority Report (Camera Movement & Editing: Blog Tasks)

(1: Pick three aspects of camera movement in the Minority Report clip. Identify the type of camera movement and write about why the director chose to use that camera movement in the scene and what effect it has on the audience)  At 0:58, the camera intentionally shakes to create a sense of chaos and disorientation. This technique makes the audience feel like they are right in the middle of the action by sharing the tension and adrenaline, which can make the chase more intense. The ariel shot at 1:46, often taken from helicopters or drones, are used to provide a bird's-eye view of the chase. This type of camera movement gives the audience a broader perspective of the chase. At 2:21, the camera shakes are more noticeable as the height increases, which undoubtedly indicates to the audience that a fall from here can be lethal

(2: Pick two aspects of editing in the Minority Report clip and write about what effect it has on the audience) The pace of editing at the start of the scene starts unhurried, but upon being discovered, it starts to get hasty, which fits perfectly into the role of action. This quick cutting and pacing serve to intensify the audience's experience. Rapid cuts between shots and angles increase the tension and can keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Another aspect is the close-up shot to reveal the emotions of the character, which can illustrate to the audience how he's feeling.

(3: Revise last week's work on camerawork by picking out two shots or camera angles in the clip that communicate meaning to the audience) Straight cut at 0:31 which leads to a different shot, this does not generally mean anything to the audience but having the frequency of cuts high can definitely make it more action-like. Jump cut at 2:13 from the character vomiting to a shot of him vomiting on someone.
